Midweek is the perfect chance for anyone in High School to take a break in the middle of the week and just kick back. Hangout with old friends, meet new friends, eat some food, and learn more about who God is calling you to be. Midweek will meet every Wednesday this month except December 23rd and 30th (the Wednesdays before Christmas and New Years Eve). We will meet at Michael Booth’s house each night from 7pm-9pm.

Senior High Youth!

This summer we will be serving in Guatemala for our Sr. High Mission Trip with a group called Partners in Service based out of Richmond, Virginia. This will be a mission experience unlike anything we have ever done before–a true opportunity to witness and serve a community that lives in a state of poverty unlike anything we would ever witness in the United States.

Our purpose this summer is to explore and experience how we can serve the entire world. We will be working within the Mayan Villages of the Guatemalan Highlands. Even though the Mayan population in Guatemala is more than the majority, they are treated very poorly by their country, and most live in some of the poorest conditions in the entire world.

“Partners in Service” has been serving the Guatemalan community for seventeen years. They provide a safe trip, led by very experienced guides, translators, professional drivers, and Mayan community leaders. They provide a trip that will allow us to experience true Mayan culture and make available to us the opportunity to serve the community through relational and minimal constructional types of service. Our trip will be from June 6th through June 13th, 2010. It will be chaperoned by leaders who have served previously with Partners in Service in Guatemala, adults who have served in Tarrytown UMC international missions, and by the Youth staff of Tarrytown United Methodist Church.

This is a very unique and amazing opportunity that we will have this summer. If you are interested in attending this mission trip, it is required to attend our meeting on December 1st at 7:00pm in the Administration building. This meeting is for both students and parents. In this meeting we will cover the basic information about the trip, and will also be joined by representatives of Partners in Service as well as adults who have served on this trip in the past.

Friends are always welcome at any TUMC event. If you think this trip would be a good experience for them, please feel free to invite their families to this meeting.

We are going to the Shane and Shane “Glory in the Highest” Christmas concert at Concordia University on Tuesday, December 8th. The concert is from 8:00pm-11:00pm.

Averaging 275 shows a year, Shane & Shane has been a leading contemporary Christian bands for over a decade. The acoustic guitar duo mark up over a half a million total records sold. Their newly released album Everything is Different was carefully created after a re-evaluation of their purpose as Christian worship performers. The ultimate theme of the album illustrates the underlying ministry of Shane & Shane, to tell people about Jesus.

Glory In The Highest (A Christmas Record) is Shane and Shane’s first Christmas album. Recorded at Shane & Shane’s Spaceway Studios, the album, produced by Jason Hoard (Fee), also marks the twosome’s mix and engineering debut. Containing 11 total songs with a jazzy country/gospel flare, the project includes eight classic Christmas favorites like “Away in a Manger,” “Silent Night,” “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” and “O Holy Night,” as well as three original songs. Special guest Bethany Dillon performs background vocals on several tracks and will join Shane & Shane, along with Phil Wickham, on a mini-tour in December to support the release.

Sunday, November 15th is the night of our church’s Thanksgiving Dinner, and we’re going to help deliver food to the people who are not able to make it to the church.

We will be working from 4:00 – 6:00. Make sure to bring $3 for dinner.

We’re going to have fun, fellowship with each other, and help serve our church. What a great way to celebrate Thanksgiving!

The Annual Austin District United Methodist Youth Holiday Lock-in is upon us! This year we will be spending the night at Austin’s Park n’ Pizza. There’s going to be pizza, go carts, mini-golf, lazer tag, bumper boats,
arcade games, the rock-wall, movies, and much more! The cost is $45 per child. Register before December 1st, and you get a free hoodie!

We’ll be meeting at the church on Friday Dec. 18th at 9:20 pm. Don’t be late! You’ll be able to pick up your youth the next morning at 6:30 am in front of the church.

Drinks will be provided all night, and a pizza buffet will be open from 12:00 am – 2:00 am. After that, a snack bar offering nachos, hot dogs, etc, will be available, so don’t forget to bring extra money!

The annual District Wide Dodgeball Tournament is coming up on October 25th. Here is some information about it:

• We have 3 different divisions: High school Male, Middle School Male, and grades 6-12 co-ed (either male or female).
• The cost is only $6 per person. There are at least 6 people per team with a maximum of 8 people.
• Registration forms are in links to the right of the page.
• In order to register your team, forms and money are due to David or Clay by October 18th.
• If you would like to play and be placed on a team, you can submit a form for yourself and we will place you on a Tarrytown team.
  
• Please bring new or gently used clothes to the tournament for a clothing donation drive.
• This will be UMYF for Sunday October 25th. The tournament will be from 2-6pm at the Austin Sports Center, 425 Woodward St.
  

Get your game faces on and get ready to represent Tarrytown to the rest of the district! We can field multiple teams to smash the competition!!
